The "MR technology" group (8.11) develops and improves procedures and equipment for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and spectroscopy (MRS). The group "In vivo MRI" (8.13) applies such novel techniques in biomedical studies and tests them in the field. The central research tool is a whole-body high-field (3 tesla) MR scanner. Additionally, the department is engaged in Berlin's new facility for ultrahigh field MRI, which − starting in the end of 2008 − will operate a 7-tesla whole-body and a 9.4-tesla small-animal scanner.
The group "Standards for medical instrumentation" (8.12) develops and calibrates reference measurement systems and test devices for medical ergometers and eye tonometers.
